[ About Rob Flower ]

Rob has extensive experience in all types of river and lake fly fishing techniques, which he enthusiastically imparts through courses and fishing trips.

He has fished competitively since the first Victorian Fly-Fishing Championships in 1993, and represented Australia at the 1996 World Fly-Fishing Championships in the Czech Republic. Rob began operating his own company as a tour guide in 1992 and became accredited in 1995 by the Professional Fishing Instructors and Guides Association.

It started in the Northern Victorian town of Yackandandah, at the age of four, even before he started school. It was a Huck Finn start, but after living in "Yack" and places like Corryong, Bairnsdale and Hobart in Tasmaina, Rob is the one that became hooked.

How it all began...

Fly fishing started at the age of 17 and fly tying at the same time. Fishing had become, and still is, a way of life. He has "haunted" many of the well known fishing spots around Melbourne, where he has lived for most of his adult life.

Rob demonstrates tackle, fly-tying and talks about techniques at fishing trade shows, and gives talks for various clubs and fishing forums. He continues to fish and tie flies, and works from his home in Melbourne as a fly fishing guide and instructor. Rob is currently:

  • A board member of Fly Fish Australia.
  • In 1999 was awarded a "Highly Commended" Certificate for service to clients from the Australian Achiever Awards.
  • Life Member of the Essendon Anglers Club
  • Member of Northern Suburbs Fly Fishers Club
  • 6 of Rob's fly patterns are published in the 1997 publication, "Australia's Best Trout Flies".
  • PFIGA Accredited Member (Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association)
