Beginners' Fly Fishing
These 5 week courses are designed to introduce you to the basics of fly fishing and fly casting. The course is taught in a classroom setting with no more than 12 participants and discussion is encouraged. Detailed course notes are provided. You also gain valuable practical skills through 4 half-hour casting sessions at the beginning of sessions 2 to 5. All equipment is provided if required.
(Week one instruction covers equipment, so if you wish to purchase equipment it is suggested that you wait until after week 1.)
Topics
covered in the classroom include:
- An explanation of the gear and knots used.
- Trout instincts and feeding habitats, and the fishing food chain.
- How to fish rivers and streams and which flies to use when.
- How to fish still water and lake fishing and which flies to try.
- Environmental and safety considerations.
- Suggested fishing venues in Victoria.

Fly Tying Course
In this 5 week course you will learn how to tie a number of standard flies in common use. It complements the beginners' fishing course well, however, it is not a pre-requiste.
Materials are supplied but participants are required to have their own equipment and tools. A basic list can be provided upon request.

Matuka's
Muddlers
Nymphs
Winged flies
Wooly Buggers
